Pathfinding
Overview
Think of pathfinding as an in-game GPS to make sure you don’t lose your way. It can be used to find locations and NPCs.
There are certain cases where pathfinding will lead you to either a general area and in certain cases, will provide the error "It is at a hard-to-find location". This can mean:
- The name or location was not spelled correctly
- It is part of the objective to search for the location
There are two ways to use Pathfinding. One is through your Quest (J) window and use of the Dictionary and the other is using the /pathfinding command.
/Pathfinding Command
If you know the name of the location or NPC you are searching for, you can use the /pathfinding command.
Ex: If I wanted to find an NPC named Denma I would:
- Press Enter to bring up the chat window
- Type in /pathfinding Denma
- The World Map (M) will pop up with a purple X marking the NPC location.
Note: If you have your Transparent Map (N) up, then the X will be placed there and your World Map will not appear |
Step 1 - Pathfinding through Quests (J)
 |
|
Open the Quests (J) Window and Click on the Quest Name |
Quests and Campaigns can be clicked to bring up a Description page detailing the objectives you have already completed and those you have not yet done.
Step 2 - Selecting the Quest Opens the Description Window
 |
|
Quest Description - Words in Blue can be clicked to open the Dictionary |
Any words in blue can be found in the Dictionary, however not all of them can be located.
In this case, both Dalor and Denma are in the dictionary. Since, Denma is the NPC we are delivering to, we will click Denma to bring up the Dictionary.
Step 3 - Dictionary Window Appears
 |
|
Press Locate to Mark Your Map |
The Dictionary appears with additional words in Blue. Those words can be clicked if you need definitions or would like to Locate them, as well.
Since we are looking for Denma, we don’t need to click any additional links and only need to press the Locate button.
Once you’ve pressed the Locate button, your World Map (M) will appear with a purple X marking Denma’s location.
Note: If you have your Transparent Map (N) up, then the X will be placed there and your World Map will not appear |
Step 4 - Location Marked on the World Map
 |
|
The World Map will appear with an X marking the location. Hover over the X for NPC/Location Name
|
Step 5 - Using the Transparent Map and Mini-Map to Navigate
Close down the open windows (Quest, Description, and World Map). You can either press the Golden X at the top-right of each window or you can press the Esc key to close them.
Now, how are you going to easily navigate to the location?
Once you have the X marked on the World Map and closed down the open windows, you can press N to bring up your Transparent Map.
You will also see a purple arrow (directional indicator) on your Mini-Map.
Now you can start the journey to your destination, using these tools to make sure you don’t lose your way.
